History

The St. Croix Falls Civic Auditorium, built in 1916, was envisioned as a multipurpose space for civic and cultural activities. Initially intended for vaudeville and opera performances, it became a movie theater during the silent film era and later adapted to accommodate "talkies." The auditorium also served as a community hub, hosting events ranging from basketball games to Red Cross efforts during World War I and the Spanish Flu pandemic. Over the decades, it underwent numerous transformations, including use as a library, city offices, and a sewing factory.

In 1990, Festival Theatre began producing live performances in the space, fulfilling its original purpose. The building was added to the Wisconsin and National Registers of Historic Places in 2006-2007. However, structural challenges led to its vacancy in recent years. In 2023, ownership transferred to 210 Civic, LLC, and restoration efforts began to revitalize this historic structure for modern use, continuing its legacy as a cultural centerpiece.
